In August 2018, Kerala experienced its worst flooding since 1924 due to heavy monsoon rains, affecting 13 out of 14 districts. Over 1.5 million people were severely impacted, nearly 400 lives lost, and extensive damage to homes, roads, and land occurred, with economic losses estimated at $5.8 billion.
The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) recognized the need for a disaster relief warehouse and identified its Kottayam District Branch for the facility. With funding from the Canadian Red Cross Society, the ground floor was transformed into a warehouse, while conference and meeting rooms were relocated to upper floors, enhancing disaster preparedness and response capabilities. We were honoured to be selected as the architects for the project and successfully renovated the building in accordance with IRCS guidelines. Contributing our design expertise to such a vital organization has been a fulfilling experience.
